Working alpha · Early access
Create charts. Understand the design.
Bring your data, create a chart, and explore its design with practical guidance from visualization research. No specialist training needed.
Early access is for people and organizations who inform the Swiss public and are responsible for information that may influence decisions or behavior.
Free for eligible early users and project partners under the current access policy.
Create, check and refine
-
Bring your data
Type or paste spreadsheet cells, import an Excel workbook, CSV or TSV file, or use an empty template. Build your chart with a live preview.
-
Check your choices
Review labels, units and sources, explore research-based design guidance, and compare changes before keeping them.
-
Keep control
Undo edits, save an editable project, and export your chart. You stay in control of the final result.
Scientific insight, made practical
Bring visualization research into everyday chart-making, with guidance that helps you understand and refine your design choices.
VizCheck is a work in progress, growing with ongoing research and feedback from the people who use it.
Explore the research behind the guidance
For supported charts, five descriptions explore:
- Information density
- Detail within a series
- Comparison or exploration
- Alternative views
- Geography or relationships
These descriptions focus on the chart's design. Insights into how readers respond are still being researched and evaluated for future versions.
Two ways to help shape VizCheck
Help shape a tool that fits real work, through practical feedback and follow-up testing.
Early users
Individuals who make charts in their work, including journalists, scientists and communicators.
Project partners
Organizations, such as newsrooms, institutions and public-service teams, who can try VizCheck in practice.
How participation works
- Bring a real task. Choose a small, non-sensitive chart task and tell me what you need to communicate.
- Use it and share feedback. Try VizCheck in your workflow and share what helped, what was confusing, and what would be useful.
- Try improvements again. Revisit improvements and agree a manageable way to stay in touch.
Your feedback helps set priorities. A short conversation helps us find a rhythm that works for you.
Any change to the access policy would be communicated before it takes effect.
Research participation, recording, public endorsement, and permission to use your name or organization's logo are discussed separately.
Start a conversation
Tell me about your work, the audience you inform, and a chart task you would like help with. We can explore a suitable way to get involved.
